### Summary
Want to work for a contemporary water management agency whose mission is to assist in meeting the increasing water demands of the West while protecting the environment and the public's investment? Join the staff of the Bureau of Reclamation as a Student Trainee (Reclamation Guide) and provide the local community and the public with information and education on water conservation.
This is a temporary student internship opportunity under the Pathways Program. The major objective of the Pathways Program is to employ students, giving them a chance to work in a Federal agency and resume or continue their education without interruption caused by financial pressure. Students appointed may work part-time while school is in session and full-time (depending upon the needs of the agency) when students are on a vacation period or whenever the school is officially closed.

### Responsibilities
Serves as a Student Trainee (Reclamation Guide)
* Educates the public through interpretive presentations which include water uses and conservation, electricity and hydropower generation, and the natural features of the American River watershed.
* Responds to repetitive common type questions and conveys a variety of information using audio-visual aids, printed materials, graphic displays, giving brief explanations of the purpose and ways to protect and conserve natural resources.
* Researches, prepares, plans and designs interpretive programs and water conservation exhibits for presentation.
* Maintains Visitor Center area, assisting in the general housekeeping and upkeep of visitor facilities, including the exhibit area and maintaining premises.
* Staffs ARWEC information desk, answers visitor questions pertaining to ARWEC and Folsom Dam, water conservation methods, and Reclamation in general.

To be eligible, an applicant must:
* be at least 16 years of age or older;
* be in good academic standing as defined by the school they are attending; and
* be a student who has been accepted for enrollment for next semester and must maintain at least a half-time course load as defined by your educational institution while serving in this position OR be a student who is currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, or graduate or professional school.
Interns must continue to meet program eligibility requirements throughout the duration of the appointment.
In addition, they must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
### Qualifications
Applicants must meet the Basic Education Qualification Requirements listed below:
GS-04: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.
Academic Year: At the undergraduate level, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours is comparable to 1 year of undergraduate education. Four years of progressive study or 120 semester hours meets the degree requirements. At the graduate level, 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours.
Accreditation: Only education from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education is acceptable to meet education requirements or to substitute for experience, if applicable. Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, applicants must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.

Relocation: Travel and relocation expenses are not authorized and are the responsibility of the selectee.
Telework: Reclamation has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisory approval.
Employment Conditions:
* Applicants must be available to work part-time in the Folsom area during the school year and full time during the summer.
* This is a temporary position with a not-to-exceed date. When the not-to-exceed date is reached or whenever services are no longer needed, the selectee will be terminated from Federal service. Position may be extended depending on management's need, providing student program requirements continue to be met.
* The duration of a Pathways appointment is a trial period.
* Successful adjudication of personnel security investigation required.
* All Federal employees are required by PL 104-134 to have federal payments made by direct deposit.
* A mandatory participant agreement that spells out the requirements of the program, including an anticipated date for completing educational requirements is required.

### How You Will Be Evaluated
You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
Human Resources (HR) will review resumes and transcript(s) to ensure applicants meet the basic qualification requirements.
